AI adoption will drive data orchestration of GPU compute environments | Predictions from Hammerspace

0

In the latest episode of our Prediction Video Series, we’re joined by Molly Presley, SVP of Global Marketing at Hammerspace, a data platform provider focusing on unstructured data. Presley shares her predictions for 2025 and discusses key trends shaping data management and AI.

Presley’s first prediction is that data orchestration to GPU compute environments will be a key priority for organizations in the coming year. This will be driven by the need for efficient data orchestration, as organizations work to move data sets to available compute resources for AI and analytics. Presley emphasizes that as enterprises formalize their AI strategies, the demand for GPUs will continue to surge, driving a shift toward on-premises deployments.

Another major trend she identifies is breaking down data silos where high-quality, large-scale data sets are essential, such as with AI workloads. Organizations must move toward collaborative global namespaces, where multiple users and applications can access the same data, eliminating the traditional one-to-one relationship between data sets and applications. Presley believes this shift will significantly enhance data usability and accessibility.

Presley also predicts that high-performance computing (HPC) will expand beyond government and research institutions into the enterprise space. As businesses adopt high-performance computing (HPC), they will need to balance its performance advantages with enterprise-grade requirements like data governance, protection, and security.

A key challenge for the coming year will be aligning corporate IT initiatives with AI-driven GPU computing strategies. Presley notes, “It’s going to be an ongoing challenge to unify the requirements and goals and budgets to accomplish both needs within a single enterprise.” Presley’s wish for the coming year is greater democratization of graphics processing unit (GPU) access, particularly for smaller organizations and nonprofits that could drive innovation but often lack priority access to resources.

Hammerspace’s focus for 2025 will be on expanding its data orchestration capabilities globally, helping enterprises overcome data gravity challenges, and streamlining AI and analytics workflows.
