This year’s KubeCon+CloudNativeCon hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah, was special for anynines, a cloud automation company with focus on data service automation, Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry. The company showcased its first open-source project called Klutch, designed to streamline data service management across multiple Kubernetes clusters. anynines plans to contribute Klutch to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a sandbox project.
“Klutch is more than just an adapter for anynines’ data services; it’s catering to a much wider audience. After benefiting so much from open-source, we felt it was time to give back with something valuable and relevant,” said Julian Fischer, CEO of anynines.
Klutch builds on Cloud Foundry’s abstractions, transforming them into Kubernetes-native tools to simplify cloud service integration. It enhances the developer experience by addressing the challenges of managing data services across multiple Kubernetes clusters while maintaining a focus on operational scalability. The project is fully implemented and production-ready, with plans for future integrations and ongoing community contributions.
The idea for Klutch emerged from anynines’ mission to extend its data service expertise to Kubernetes. Fischer highlighted Cloud Foundry’s ability to support large-scale developer platforms, which inspired the creation of Klutch as a bridge between Cloud Foundry’s abstractions and Kubernetes technology.
Klutch addresses critical pain points for application developers, including managing multiple Kubernetes clusters and accessing cloud services with reduced complexity. By providing on-demand, self-service capabilities, it empowers developers to deploy and manage databases independently, eliminating the need for manual intervention.
Talking about major trends seen at this KubeCon, Fischer noticed the shift from Ops-related Kubernetes usage to application developer experiences. This shift emphasizes the growing need for tools that provide on-demand developer self-service. Developers face the challenge of managing databases in Kubernetes clusters and the need for remote control. anynines aims to provide application developers with the means to deploy and run their apps without human involvement.
