Democratizing and commoditizing 5G is the vision behind the newly announced $300 FreedomFi Gateway devices. It gives people easy access to Magma, an Open Source mobile core network solution. It’s basically an x86-based commodity appliance with Magma preloaded on it. You can easily plug in any LTE or 5G small cell to the gateway and build your own 5G network for your users. It’s as easy and cheap as building a Linux server with commodity hardware.
