Public cloud providers, especially Amazon Web Services, are often seen by some commercial open source players as a threat to their businesses. Elastic is the latest company that resorted to a dramatic measure to fend off AWS’s consumption of its code-base. While we know most of the story, we invited Rob Hirschfeld, CEO and Founder of RackN, to deep dive into the entire fiasco. We also debated the true meaning of open source and the use of license as a weapon to solve business problems. The discussion touched upon some very sensitive topics; though we avoided any controversial stand, it should be seen as an academic discussion on open source and its future.
