Sam Altman Joins Microsoft

Former OpenAI Co-founder and CEO Sam Altman will be joining Microsoft to lead its new advanced AI research team, after a dramatic weekend. Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the company is hiring both Altman and OpenAI co-founder and former board chair Greg Brockman.

“We’re extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team,” Nadella posted on X. “We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success.”

Altman was abruptly fired from OpenAI in a chaotic manner which reminds folks of the SVB fiasco.

As the biggest investor in OpenAI, Microsoft and other investors tried to intervene and the board re-considered their position, but it didn’t work out. Sam joining Microsoft brings an end to that saga and puts the tech giant in a winning position given their heavy investment in GenAI and considering their announcements at Ignite 2023.
