At KubeCon+CloudNativeCon hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah, Arun Gupta, Vice President of Developer Programs at Intel, shared insights on his commitment to No Shave November, emphasizing the importance of promoting men’s health.

For over a decade, Gupta has used the campaign to raise awareness about social, mental, and physical well-being. “The whole idea here is that social, mental and physical health matters for everybody. But let’s use this as a statement to talk about men’s health, and make sure that you are not worrying alone—talk to your friends, family, or partner. Do a regular workout, eat healthy, have a good social life, because that is the way you sustain longer,” said Gupta.

Gupta also highlighted the importance of work-life harmony, gratitude, and mindfulness. He shared how these practices influence his daily routine, which includes running, weightlifting, and scheduling time for self-care.

Gupta on open source and Intel

Gupta talked about Intel’s long-standing support for open source, contributing to over 300 projects and being part of 700 foundations. Additionally, Gupta discussed his latest book, Fostering Open Source Culture, his seventh publication, which presents 40 case studies on cultivating open-source practices across industries.

He underscored Intel’s commitment to empowering developers through initiatives like hackathons, teaching kits, and university partnerships.

We then deep dive into the Open Platform for Enterprise AI (OPEA), Intel’s open platform for enterprise AI, which simplifies generative AI (GenAI) application development, aligned with cloud-native principles. Gupta outlined the two main components of OPEA: the GenAI components and the blueprints, which include various AI applications like chatbots and summarizers. Given the current state of multi-cloud, Gupta highlighted the flexibility of OPEA, allowing it to run on different cloud providers and Kubernetes clusters.

Gupta elaborated on how Kubernetes has evolved to support AI workloads and its role as the “de facto compute platform” for AI applications. He emphasized Intel’s long-standing involvement in the Kubernetes community and their contributions to the project. Gupta mentioned Intel’s work on the Dynamic Resource Allocation (DRA) API, a vendor-agnostic approach to resource allocation in Kubernetes.
