In a cloud-native world where performance, security, and developer velocity intersect, Azul is evolving beyond its roots in high-performance JVMs. As George Gould, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Partner Alliances at Azul, explains, the company’s roadmap spans three strategic areas: build, buy, or partner—and all are aimed at accelerating Java in the enterprise.
On the developer productivity front, Azul Intelligence Cloud already delivers compelling runtime insights. “We can tell you if your running application includes vulnerable code—even if you haven’t pushed a release in months,” says Gould. It also identifies dead code, giving teams visibility into what’s actually being used in production.

But that’s just the beginning. Gould hints at expanding Azul Intelligence Cloud into new areas like technical debt tracking and code quality metrics—turning it into a powerful tool not just for runtime insights, but for improving the entire software development lifecycle.
Azul is also setting its sights on cloud efficiency. “Are there ways we can provide signals to Kubernetes or other orchestration layers to make Java workloads run better in the cloud?” Gould asks. The answer lies in better container startup speeds, infrastructure right-sizing, and continuous optimization—features that could dramatically reduce cloud costs without sacrificing performance.
What makes this approach compelling is that it combines developer-first tools with operations-level impact. Azul’s strategy isn’t just to improve Java runtimes—it’s to make Java smarter, more efficient, and better suited for the realities of cloud-native environments.
For enterprises juggling performance, cost, and developer velocity, Azul’s evolving roadmap offers a glimpse into what a next-gen Java ecosystem could look like: one where visibility, speed, and intelligence are built in by design.
