KubeCon+CloudNativeCon is more than just a trade show for cloud-native technologies; it has also become a gathering place for open source communities to connect and explore better ways to collaborate. “This event has become a must-attend,” David Nalley, who was recently promoted to the position of Director of Developer Experience at AWS, told us, his enthusiasm evident. “It feels like one of the largest open source events in the world.”

What struck us most during our conversation wasn’t just talking about the event’s impressive size, but its magnetic effect on the entire ecosystem. KubeCon has evolved into something greater than just another tech conference – it’s become the beating heart of open source collaboration.

KubeCon is one such place where you’ll see arch-rivals like AWS, Microsoft, and Google collaborating alongside new heavyweights like Akamai, rising stars like Loft Labs and Mirantis, and niche players solving specific challenges, such as anynines.

Even projects without formal ties to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) make their way to KubeCon. Why? Because this is where communities happen. This is where connections form. This is where innovation spreads.

“So many people here, so many projects,” Nalley explained. “Even if they’re not in the CNCF, they use this as a nexus for getting together and bringing their communities together.”

The London venue earned particular praise from Nalley. With its spacious layout allowing attendees to spread out while still fostering meaningful interactions, the physical space complemented the collaborative spirit perfectly.

“This is an amazing space that they’ve got available for us,” he noted with appreciation. “This is a lot of fun.”

For those tracking the pulse of open source development, KubeCon’s emergence as the community’s gathering place of choice signals how the collaborative approach to technology continues to gain momentum. The energy was palpable throughout our visit – a testament to open source’s vibrant future.
