Despite its altitude, Mesosphere failed to escape the gravitation pull of Kubernetes.

Mesosphere, one of the earliest players to offer container orchestration platform, is re-tuning its focus with the name change. The company is now called D2iQ.

Mike Fey, recently appointed CEO of D2iQ, said that the name Mesosphere no longer represents the evolution of the company.  The company is already offering services that are based on open source projects other than Apache Mesos.

The new name D2iQ is a clever play on IQ companies need for day 2 operations. “Day 2 is when an application moves from a development project to a strategic advantage to the business,” he said.

On day 2 organizations have to start worrying about resilience, scale, agility, security, governance and compliance. Development is the easiest part, day 2 is the toughest part and that’s where D2iQ is entering the picture.

D2iQ is refining its services and products offering to reflect the name change. They now have three core solutions categories called ‘spheres’, each based on an open source project to solve a particular problem.

Kubernetes based Ksphere is designed for application orchestration. Mesosphere will use the legacy Mesos and DC/OS platforms for application scale and reliability. Datasphere is a data-centric solution for building and maintaining large-scale data analytics, data science and data-driven application environments. Datasphere will use open source technologies like Kafka, Spark and Cassandra.
