LF Decentralized Trust to unify blockchain and digital identity projects

0

The Linux Foundation recently announced the intent to create LF Decentralized Trust, a new umbrella organization aimed at gathering and expanding a community and portfolio of technologies to deliver the transparency, reliability, security, and efficiency needed to successfully upgrade critical systems worldwide.

I was joined by Daniela Barbosa, GM of Blockchain and Identity for the Linux Foundation and current Executive Director of the Hyperledger Foundation, to discuss the vision behind the trust. The trust is an expansion of the work Linux Foundation has been doing for almost a decade now as part of the Hyperledger Foundation.

Decentralized technologies, including blockchain and digital identity projects, and the need for a decentralized trust framework

  • Decentralized Trust project launched by the Linux Foundation to unify blockchain and digital identity projects.
  • Decentralization focuses on peer-to-peer interactions without central authority.
  • Decentralized Trust may create opportunities for cloud providers, governments want diversity in vendors.

Decentralized technologies, including blockchain, smart contracts, and cryptography, with a focus on open source and vendor neutrality

  • Central banks prioritize open source and open governance in selecting technology for digital currency and trust infrastructure projects.
  • Barbosa discusses Linux Foundation’s expansion into Decentralized Trust, building on 9 years of work in blockchain and distributed ledgers.
  • The Linux Foundation is working on a new project to improve Decentralized Trust through cryptography and multi-party computation.

Decentralized Trust and its expansion into new industries and stakeholders

  • Building on Linux Foundation’s open source code projects is critical for decentralized technologies.
  • Barbosa discusses expansion of access to developers for decentralized technologies, with potential for existing Hyperledger communities to further expand into new ecosystems.
  • Barbosa also talks about expanding interest in blockchain and digital identity projects across industries.
  • LF Decentralized Trust is recruiting new projects, communities for Layer-1 blockchain contributions.
