Last week Google told Protocol that they decided to ‘donate’ Istio, an open source service mesh project, to a foundation. What changed Google’s mind? Who will it be ‘donated’ to? How critical was Istio to Google that they wanted to keep control over the project? How critical is the project to the cloud-native community? And, last but not the least will the ‘donation’ of Istio to a foundation increase its adoption?
