HashiCorp Founder Mitchell Hashimoto has decided to leave the company after serving as an individual contributor, co-CTO and before that, CEO for years. Hashimoto co-founded HashiCorp, the multi-cloud infrastructure automation software company, with Armon Dadgar in 2012 and operated as CEO for almost four years.

“My departure from HashiCorp is something I’ve been thinking about and planning for a long time. Ever since founding HashiCorp, I’ve felt it’s important to build a company where I’m not required for day-to-day operations and where other leaders can carry the torch over time,” Hashimoto said in a blog post.

In July 2021, Hashimoto announced he was leaving the CTO role to become an individual contributor focused on HashiCorp’s projects like Waypoint, which helps customers build and release code.

HashiCorp recently came under fire when it decided to change their licence, leading to the creation of a user-drive alternative to Terraform called OpenTofu.
