New Akamai technology could prevent Taylor Swift ticket chaos

0

Scraper bots bring a lot of value to customers and commercial plates as they help find better prices and products. However, when misused they can disrupt businesses and deprive users from products or services they want. Not being able to buy Taylor Swift’s concert tickets at a fair price or not being able to buy the latest graphics card are such examples. More harmful exploits of scraper bots can be counterfeiting goods and websites. Companies need solutions to block ‘bad’ scraping attacks without affecting the good ones, such as finding the best price for your flight tickets. Akamai recently added a new product called Content Protector, to their abuse and fraud protection portfolio.

In this interview, Rupesh Chokshi, SVP and GM of Application Security at Akamai, talks about the scale of this problem and how Akamai can help customers. He says that the Akamai solution was able to reduce malicious scraper traffic for a high-tech customer, from 25 million to 70,000 incidents. He also explains how Akamai’s technologies detect and prevent fraud and abuse in real-time, using a combination of application-level, protocol-level, and telemetry-level assessments. We also discussed the role of regulations and laws in containing malicious scraper traffic. Check out this interview to deep dive into the announcement.
