Tigera, the creator of Project Calico, has announced the release of Calico Open Source 3.30, delivering major upgrades to observability, security, and scalability for Kubernetes deployments. The new version extends enterprise-grade functionality to the open source community, offering enhanced tools for managing service-to-service communications, ingress traffic, and microsegmentation.

Key highlights of Calico OSS 3.30 include:

  • Advanced observability with Goldmane, a gRPC-based API endpoint for streamlined access to Calico-generated flow logs and metrics.
  • Integration with Whisker, a web-based UI for viewing, filtering, and sharing flow logs to simplify troubleshooting and policy authoring.
  • Staged network policies, including GlobalStagedNetworkPolicy and StagedNetworkPolicy, allowing users to test and audit microsegmentation rules before enforcing them.
  • Introduction of Calico Ingress Gateway, a vendor-neutral ingress solution built on the Kubernetes Gateway API and Envoy Gateway for improved load balancing, failover, and rate limiting.
  • Seamless connection to Calico Cloud’s free forever edition, enabling read-only access to policy management, service graph visualizations, and auto-generated policy recommendations.

These enhancements provide DevOps teams with deeper insights into network traffic, reduce time spent troubleshooting incidents, and offer safer, testable approaches to implementing network segmentation.

Calico Open Source, derived from Project Calico, has grown to become the most widely adopted container networking and security solution, powering over 8 million nodes daily across 166 countries.

“At Tigera, we are dedicated to providing the open source community with the tools needed to scale Kubernetes environments efficiently and securely,” said Phil DiCorpo, Senior Director of Product Management at Tigera. “The extensive updates to Calico Open Source announced today solidifies this commitment. These latest enhancements will provide organizations with unmatched visibility into the traffic within their clusters, simplify microsegmentation and namespace isolation capabilities, and deliver comprehensive ingress management.”

Calico OSS 3.30 marks a significant step in democratizing access to enterprise-grade networking tools, further supporting organizations on their Kubernetes journey.
