SIOS Technology has released SIOS LifeKeeper for Linux version 9.9.0, featuring advanced disaster recovery (DR) capabilities. The update includes synchronous and asynchronous data mirroring, intelligent failover mechanisms, enhanced security management, expanded language support, and additional Linux operating system compatibility.

Margaret Hoagland, VP of Global Sales and Marketing at SIOS Technology, says, “Lifekeeper for Linux is a high availability (HA) clustering software that protects critical applications from downtime and disasters. If you’re running critical applications like SQL Server, Oracle, or SAP HANA, whether it’s a major disaster or a minor issue within your system, SIOS ensures they remain protected and continue operating smoothly.”

Hoagland discusses the key features which include advanced disaster recovery with a three or four-node cluster across AWS availability zones, high automation for failover processes, and flexible replication options (synchronous, asynchronous, memory synchronous). Lifekeeper simplifies IT administration by managing complex environments and ensuring high availability. It supports recovery time objectives (RTO), recovery point objectives (RPO), and offers at least four nines of availability. New security features allow customers to choose between Su and Sudo for security privileges. Additionally, Lifekeeper now supports several new Linux distributions and has added Korean and German language options to its web console.

Introduction and Overview of Lifekeeper for Linux

  • Hoagland provides an overview of Lifekeeper for Linux, describing it as high availability clustering software that protects critical applications from downtime and disasters.
  • Hoagland explains that Lifekeeper ensures the continuity of operations for important applications like SQL Server, Oracle, and SAP HANA by providing failover capabilities.
  • The software offers various replication options, including synchronous, asynchronous, and memory synchronous replication, providing flexibility in configuration.

New features in Lifekeeper for Linux 9.9.0

  • Hoagland highlights the advanced DR capability in the new release, which allows users to set up a three or four-node cluster across AWS availability zones and regions.
  • The product includes high degrees of automation, managing the process of moving operations from the primary server to the secondary server in case of a failure.
  • Hoagland mentions the ability to failover to a distant site for additional DR protection, ensuring business continuity.
  • The software offers flexible configuration options, allowing users to choose the best replication method for their environment.

Enhanced Disaster Recovery and Performance Optimization

  • Hoagland emphasizes the importance of RTO, RPO, and availability for IT teams.
  • Lifekeeper delivers at least four nines of availability, ensuring minimal downtime and high data consistency.
  • The software automates the disaster recovery process, including failover and replication, without manual intervention.
  • Hoagland explains that this automation is a significant benefit to customers, ensuring business continuity and minimizing downtime.

Intelligent failover for added reliability

  • Hoagland explains how the product ensures a reliable and healthy failover environment.
  • The software performs analysis to ensure memory and data synchronization between the primary and secondary servers. This analysis saves time and ensures a reliable failover, protecting the environment with robust failover capabilities.
  • Hoagland highlights that intelligent failover is a key feature that adds to the overall reliability and robustness of the product.

New Security Management features

  • Hoagland discusses the new security management features in the release, allowing customers to choose between Su and Sudo for security privileges.
  • Su is an older command, while Sudo is a newer capability, both being industry standards. Su allows administrators to assume the identity of an administrator with broad privileges, while Sudo provides greater control and monitoring of temporary privileges.
  • Hoagland explains that SIOS supports both Su and Sudo, giving customers the flexibility to choose the security method they prefer.

Support for new Linux distributions

  • Hoagland lists the new Linux distributions supported in the latest release.
  • The new distributions add to the software’s flexibility and adaptability in different IT environments.

Additional features and language support

  • Hoagland talks about the new web console features, including the addition of Korean and German languages to the interface.
  • The software continues to build out language support, ensuring customers can use the product in their preferred language.
  • Hoagland emphasizes the importance of language support in making the product more accessible and user-friendly for a global audience.
