Tigera, the company behind the open source Calico networking and security solution for Kubernetes, has announced a new integration with Mirantis, the creators of k0rdent—a next-generation multi-cluster Kubernetes management platform. With this integration, k0rdent users can effortlessly deploy and manage Calico as the Container Network Interface (CNI) for Kubernetes clusters provisioned through k0rdent, enabling streamlined networking and security at scale.

“The combination of k0rdent and Calico is a significant step forward for adoption and usability,” said Utpal Bhatt, CMO at Tigera. “Integrating Calico’s comprehensive networking and security capabilities with k0rdent’s multi-cluster management platform empowers our joint customers to effortlessly build and operate highly secure and resilient Kubernetes environments.”

The Calico and k0rdent integration provides:

  • Simplified Calico Deployment: Automate the deployment and configuration of Calico as the CNI for Kubernetes clusters provisioned by k0rdent.
  • Centralized Network Policy Management: Define and manage Calico network policies from the k0rdent control plane, ensuring consistent security enforcement across all clusters.
  • Enhanced Security Posture: Leverage Calico’s rich security features, including micro-segmentation, network encryption, and intrusion detection, to protect Kubernetes workloads.
  • Improved Observability: Gain deep insights into network traffic and security events within Kubernetes clusters through Calico’s monitoring and visualization tools.

This integration empowers organizations to:

  • Simplify the deployment and management of secure Kubernetes networks.
  • Enhance the security of their Kubernetes environments with Calico’s advanced security features.
  • Improve network performance and reliability.
  • Gain greater visibility into network traffic and security events.

“Having Calico in our k0rdent ecosystem provides end users with comprehensive networking and security capabilities,” said Michael Kress, Director, Partners and Alliances, Mirantis, Inc. “It’s clear open source will need to lead the way in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. Having such a serious open source networking and security solution available with k0rdent’s multi-cluster Kubernetes management solution is a big win for users.”
