Cloud Foundry eases developer pains of discovering and deploying pre-built applications/services on K8s

0

Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes are two key open-source technologies under the Linux Foundation that complement each other seamlessly. Kubernetes focuses primarily on empowering operations teams, while Cloud Foundry brings one of the best developer experiences. By extending Kubernetes’ capabilities to development teams, Cloud Foundry enhances the developer experience for the broader ecosystem.

At KubeCon+CloudNativeCon, hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah, Cloud Foundry Foundation announced the release of Korifi 0.13.0, which introduces the Cloud Foundry Marketplace for Korifi where platform operators and developers can discover and deploy pre-built applications or services like databases and message queues.

In this episode, Ram Iyengar, Chief Evangelist at the Cloud Foundry Foundation (CFF), discussed the challenges of multi-tenancy, multi-cluster management, and self-service  Kubernetes, explaining how Cloud Foundry addresses these issues.

The new marketplace addresses multi-tenancy and multi-cluster management challenges by creating namespaces and orgs/spaces. It supports services like storage, databases, and message queues, simplifying developer experiences. The marketplace is open-source, with commercial support available from various ISVs. Future plans include perfecting Docker deployments and positioning Cloud Foundry alongside other cloud-native projects.

“The Cloud Foundry marketplace has always existed in the Cloud Foundry project but now we are bringing that experience to Kubernetes so you can enable developer self-service on Kubernetes infrastructure thanks to Cloud Foundry,” said Iyenger, “Whether it’s storage, databases, message queues and all the other things that developers need for their apps, you now have a very simple, straightforward way to create, bind, and manage the lifecycle of these services.”
