Code assistants are emerging as a very useful tool in the toolbox of a developer. A tool is as good as the hands that use it. Code assistants don’t have a pixie dust to spring out code magically. As Saurabh Gupta, Director of Industry Solutions at Qarik, states, “If you are looking for code assistance and what they do, they help you do more of what you do. If you are a great developer, they’ll help you do more, because it’ll help you get the boilerplate out much quickly. But if you’re a mediocre developer or just getting started out, they’re not going to make you a better one. They will just help you do more of what you’re currently doing.”
In this episode, we talk about the capabilities and limitations of code assistants. We looked at code assistants from two different perspectives – one of a developer and another of a CEO. We talked about CEOs who should embrace code assistants into their organizations. We looked at the business value of such code assistants and if there are any risks associated with them. If yes, how we can sidestep those risks. Gupta also shared his advice on best practices or the correct approach to adopting code assistants.
