Standardizing telco APIs: CAMARA’s vision for global connectivity | Markus Kümmerle

0

In this episode, Markus Kümmerle, Marketing Committee Chair of the CAMARA project, discusses the project’s progress and future plans. CAMARA focuses on standardizing telco APIs and has grown to include over 1,100 participants from more than 400 companies.

The project’s first meta-release includes 25 sub-projects, each committed to delivering two releases annually. Key initiatives include Open Gateway for API exposure and a new company by 12 major telcos to aggregate APIs globally. Kümmerle emphasizes the importance of intent-based APIs, particularly in fraud detection and location services. However, challenges include achieving global coverage and developer engagement. The CAMARA ecosystem spans vendors, software companies, and consulting firms, with an open invitation for all interested organizations to join.

Questions discussed

  • What is the CAMARA project all about?
  • Are there any specific areas or use cases that CAMARA targets?
  • What impact does CAMARA have on telcos?
  • What kind of ecosystem is there around CAMARA?
  • What are some of the challenges that the community is still facing?
