Adobe Ramps Up Its VR Strategy; Acquires Oculus Medium

0

Adobe has acquired Facebook’s Oculus Medium, a 3D virtual reality sculpting tool for creatives, to accelerate its 3D and immersive efforts.

Launched in December 2016, the creative tool enables users to sculpt, model and paint in an immersive environment – to create characters, objects, environments, expressive works of art and more. The integration of Medium’s tools and technology is expected to contribute to Adobe’s 3D and immersive strategy.

In a blog post, Sebastien Deguy, the former CEO of Allegorithmic and now vice president of Adobe’s 3D and immersive efforts, describes the acquisition as a “redoubled investment of Adobe in the 3D and AR space”. The Substance and Medium teams are ready to work together on the next generation of 3D tools, he added.

To date, Medium has been used by AAA game developers, indie VR developers, feature film concept artists, VFX artists, makers, and more. And with Adobe’s support, Medium aims to better help creators thrive and shape their 3D visions than ever before.
