The Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) has announced the addition of five new general members, the formation of two new Interest Groups, and significant progress across multiple Working Groups and Interest Groups as OpenUSD adoption expands across industries.
AOUSD welcomed Amazon, Delta Electronics, Homestyler, Kondux, and Rockwell Automation as new general members. Their expertise in digital design, industrial automation, smart manufacturing, and cloud computing will help strengthen the OpenUSD ecosystem.
Two new Interest Groups have been formed to drive OpenUSD’s expansion into emerging sectors. The Industrial and Engineering Digital Twin (IEDT) Interest Group will focus on applying OpenUSD to industrial and engineering digital twins, defining standards and requirements to drive adoption. The Web Interest Group will explore ways to enable OpenUSD content on the Internet, including support for WebAssembly and optimized web deployment.
AOUSD also reported key progress across its Working Groups. The Core Spec Working Group is finalizing its preliminary draft submission for Core Spec 1.0, which defines the algorithm for value resolution. A sample implementation of value resolution and parsing for USDA and USDC file formats is also nearing completion. The Materials Working Group is drafting normative language for material node definitions, with plans to integrate with the MaterialX Specification through the Academy Software Foundation.
Interest Groups have made notable advancements as well. The AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations) Interest Group is developing a naming proposal for the Technical Advisory Committee and preparing a geolocation proposal for the Geometry Working Group. The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Interest Group has finalized its mission statement and is collaborating on an Inclusive Language Guide with the Academy Software Foundation.
AOUSD also announced the release of OpenUSD v25.02, featuring improvements in content interoperability, a new Color Space API, enhanced validation, and support for scalar translate and scale XformOps. The default file version for USDC files has been updated to 0.10.0, requiring OpenUSD v23.11 or newer.
Formed in 2023, AOUSD promotes the standardization and growth of OpenUSD, an extensible framework for 3D scene creation and navigation.
