Azul has reported a 63% year-over-year increase in new customer bookings for its recently completed fiscal year. The record growth reflects increasing enterprise demand for high-performance Java platforms and cost-effective commercially supported Java solutions, as companies seek to reduce cloud expenses and move away from Oracle’s pricing and licensing structures.
“Rising cloud infrastructure costs and enterprise migrations away from Oracle Java fueled our momentum this past year as organizations prioritize cost-efficient, scalable, and secure Java solutions,” said Scott Sellers, co-founder and CEO at Azul. “We remain deeply committed to our customers’ success, providing best-in-class solutions for Java estates in an increasingly complex IT landscape.”
Key Drivers of Growth
A major factor contributing to Azul’s growth is the shift toward open source alternatives to Oracle Java. In Azul’s 2025 State of Java Survey & Report, 88% of over 2,000 Java professionals said they are considering or have already started moving away from Oracle Java, citing cost, open source preference, and Oracle’s sales tactics as top reasons.
Additional market drivers include the rise in cloud adoption, which has increased focus on cloud performance and cost optimization at the executive level, and a growing emphasis on DevOps productivity within enterprises. Azul’s Platform Prime and Platform Core solutions address these trends by providing exceptional value and performance, earning the trust of businesses modernizing their Java environments.
Product and Technology Innovation
Azul introduced several innovations in the past year to enhance performance, security, and value for customers:
- Intelligence Cloud Expansion: In April 2024, Azul announced that Intelligence Cloud now supports Oracle JDK and any OpenJDK-based JVM, helping DevOps teams manage vulnerability false positives and technical debt.
- Newcastle City Council Success: In August 2024, Newcastle City Council implemented Platform Core, reducing 80% of its IT security vulnerabilities.
- Performance Boost: In October 2024, Azul reported that Platform Prime outperforms other OpenJDK distributions by 37% on average and introduced a Java Performance Engineering Lab.
- DORA Compliance: Azul solutions now help financial institutions meet DORA compliance requirements.
